Proudest moment: The birth of my daughter, Portia Ann Hairston-Clay, now a credentialed teacher for the Cincinnati Unified School District (Ohio).
Greatest personal accomplishment: Being recognized by the Fresno City Council for my years of “life long commitment to community service” by proclaiming June 2, 2005, as Samuel Hollis Hairston Day in the city of Fresno at last years SOUL graduation ceremony.
Best vacation I’ve taken: The Caribbean Islands…Yeah Mon!!
Favorite weekend activity: Anywhere playing basketball
Last good movie I saw: Malcolm X, by Spike Lee
Scariest Experience: After a near fatal car accident, in which I broke three vertebrae in my neck, before I went into emergency surgery, I knew that if it wasn’t successful, I could die or be a quadriplegic for life. It was successful! “Isn’t God Good…All The Time.”
If I had a million dollars I would…”Do the Right Thing”
Favorite place to shop: Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley, CA
Favorite childhood memory: Packing up the family and taking the trip to our grandparent’s house
