August 2006 Breastfeeding Awareness Month

This year’s theme is Code Watch: 25 Years of Protecting Breastfeeding.
Research is clear that breastfeeding is optimal nutrition for infants. Breastfeeding provides nutritional and health advantages that last far beyond infancy, and offers health benefits for mothers, as well. Nearly all women are able to breastfeed when they receive consistent and accurate information, and are supported by the healthcare team, family, and community in an environment that is breastfeeding-friendly

On days when California’s peak energy demand is high everyone needs to take action. Flex Your Power Now! is an electricity conservation alert system designed to prevent Stage One electrical emergencies, as declared by the California Independent System Operator.

Quick Powering-Down Tips
  • Turn off unneeded lights, computers and appliances
  • Set thermostat to 78°F or higher when you’re home
  • Set thermostat to 85°F or off when you’re away
  • Use major appliances and equipment after 7 p.m.
Partnership
In the event that power supply or delivery emergencies occur this summer, the public will receive important early-warning information from Pacific Gas and Electric Company, the state’s other utilities, government, businesses and the mass media. We can all do something to help conserve energy. Practicing conservation and installing energy-efficient appliances will help save energy and money this summer and throughout the year.
