  • Turn off unneeded lights, computers and appliances
  • Set thermostat to 78°F or higher when you’re home
  • Set thermostat to 85°F or off when you’re away
  • Use major appliances and equipment after 7 p.m.
Partnership
In the event that power supply or delivery emergencies occur this summer, the public will receive important early-warning information from Pacific Gas and Electric Company, the state’s other utilities, government, businesses and the mass media. We can all do something to help conserve energy. Practicing conservation and installing energy-efficient appliances will help save energy and money this summer and throughout the year.

Easy Ways to Save Energy and Money

Columbus Day

Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa Italy in 1451. He was the son of Dominico Columbo, a wool weaver. It is said that he worked with his father till the age of 22, and then set out to follow his dream of becoming a sea captain. He learned to read and speak Portuguese and Latin, and read many geography books. He married Dona Felipa Perestrello in 1479. Longing to discover a new path to the Indies and Asia he set out to Spain and convinced the King and Queen to sponsor his trip “around the world” to Asia. On August 3, 1492 he set sail with three ships, La Nina, La Pinta, and Santa Maria. 33 days later on October 12, 1492 Rodrigo de Triana spotted land. Whether or not they had discovered a New World one thing is certain, this “discovery” led to the settlement of Europeans in North and South America.
