Foster Grandparents Celebrate Summer During In-Service

Complete with Polynesian dancers and tropical décor, more than 60 Volunteers from our Foster Grandparent Program relished in each other’s company during the August In-Service meeting at Twilight Haven’s Memorial Auditorium.

In-Services offer volunteer grandparents, ranging in age from 60 – 87 years, the opportunity for education, socialization, and community awareness. These sessions are geared to enhance communication skills and also provide training in the area of child development along with building a strong sense of unity and community amongst the grandparents. In addition, these meetings often include presentations by community resource providers that focus on health, safety, wellness and life enrichment for those in the twilight of their years.

Currently, there are 80 grandparent volunteers who generously devote their time to mentor at-risk youth in our community. During the 2007 - 2008 grant cycle, these esteemed elders provided over 85,000 hours of service to more than 10,000 local youth.
