SOUL High School has been hard at work for the past six weeks. Teachers and staff have made it their priority to ensure parents are well informed and feel welcome in their child’s school. Back to School Night at SOUL was the first of many informative meetings that will take place this school year. Principal Dr. Mark Wilson welcomed visitors with a warm smile and a home-cooked meal. After meeting with teachers and staff, the “SOUL Family” joined for dinner, as all families should.
“I never thought the principal of a high school and my teachers would care if they met my family,” says new student, Cynthia Zamilpa. “I feel like I’m loved here. It’s not just a school, it’s a home away from home,” she adds.
Regular parent meetings are one strategy SOUL has initiated in order to make the school year run like a well-oiled engine. “Good behavior, good grades, and positive results begin at home with the parents,” explains math teacher John Scow. SOUL has had a profound amount of success with this strategy. Test scores are at an all time high, discipline issues are almost non-existent, and happy faces can be found in every nook and cranny.
