| It’s baaaaack! Our Agency is once again administering Fresno County Workforce Investment Board’s (FCWIB) Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). The program – scheduled to run between May 1, 2009, and September 30, 2009 – is made possible by funds received from the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Summer Youth Employment Program will provide employment and training opportunities to 3,000 low-income Fresno County youth, ages 14 to 24 years. During the six-week program, youth will learn first hand what it’s like to work in the “real world”; each youth will work 20 – 40 hours per week and earn minimum wage, $8.00 an hour. They will gain valuable work experience and participate in a series of work readiness workshops designed to teach soft skills, effective work habits, and worksite behaviors such as attendance, punctuality, appearance, communication, and team work skills.
Currently, there are over 1,000 youth on the waiting list. While there isn’t a shortage of participants, Summer Youth Employment Program is looking for businesses that are interested in taking a SYEP participant under its wing and having him/her placed with them for six weeks. If you know of anyone who may be interested, please have them call 263.1100. |
