Four lucky young ladies from Sanctuary’s Transitional Living Centers (TLC) took the stage as models in a fashion show sponsored by My Sister’s Closet. This local clothing ministry, a project of United Faith Christian Fellowship, prepares women for employment by teaching them skills such as resume writing, dressing for success, preparing for interviews, and improving their money management habits. The ministry’s mission of helping a woman’s dream of self-sufficiency becomes a reality is a mission shared by our TLC programs; here, homeless young adults work to achieve success through education, employment, counseling and life skills training.
For many of our youth, a key component to overcoming obstacles and moving in a new, positive direction is building confidence and self esteem. Gaining new experiences is one way to do just that. TLC resident Trish James says, “I’d like to thank TLC and My Sister’s Closet for involving me in the fashion show. That experience boosted my self confidence so much!”
Not only did fashion show participants receive a lesson on runway walking from a former Miss California, get their makeup and hair styled by Paul Mitchell students, and make lasting new friends and community connection, but they were given all of the shoes, clothing and accessories they modeled. These young ladies now have the confidence and wardrobe to put their best foot forward and make great first impressions.
