| Four of our Local Conservation Corps corpsmembers and their crew supervisor were recognized before the Fresno City Council and members of our community for helping a distressed neighbor in need. Councilmember Blong Xiong presented the group with certificates of recognition during last week’s City Council meeting.
Caprice Soloman, Daerrone Potts, David Ricks, and William Vann along with their crew supervisor, Jeff Haynes, came to the rescue of Ms. Rose Jimenez when no one else would stop and help. While out on a run near Cornelia and Dakota avenues, Ms. Jimenez fell and injured her hand. She tried flagging down passing cars, but the drivers never stopped to help. At the time, the corpsmembers were working across the street from where Ms. Jimenez fell. Caprice ran four blocks and asked a Fresno Police officer for assistance while the other corpsmembers called an ambulance, offered her water, called her daughter to inform her of her mother’s injury, and comforted her until help arrived. Jeff Haynes blocked off the area, which was saturated with blood, ensuring children from a nearby school and other passers by would not step on the blood. Ms. Jimenez’s injury – a broken finger – was so severe, that it required surgery; a month later, Ms. Jimenez is still recovering from her injury.
Congratulations!
