A little girls dream of having her own playhouse – picket fence and all – is going to come true thanks to the handy work of 10 LCC YouthBuild program participants. Under the direction Sal Terry, LCC Assistant General Manager, and Brian Nelson, Fresno Unified vocational education instructor, the group has spent endless hours building a 36 square foot playhouse to be auctioned for charity.
The playhouse, which has dual-pane windows, a door, hand decorated planters on each side and a “hip and valley roof”, will be auctioned Saturday, September 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Fresno Metropolitan Museum. While its true value is inestimable – both in actual costs, the creativity and pride of our corpsmembers, and the construction training it yielded – we hope a generous donor will take home this must have item for the benefit of The Met and the Coalition for Urban Renewal Excellence (CURE) which are dividing the proceeds. CURE is a private, nonprofit organization that revitalizes communities by providing decent, affordable housing; they construct new homes or rehabilitate existing homes in low-income areas/for low-income families throughout the central San Joaquin Valley.
Congratulations Nicole Beza, Lamar Henry, Maria Pineda, Jeremy Ruiz, Andrew Burciaga, Ruben Castro, Mike Hernandez, Efrain Perez, Cesar Aguilar, Joe Granado, Sal Terry, and Brian Nelson on a job well done! |
