Our Board Appoints New
Executive Director

Our Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce Brian Angus as the newly appointed Executive Director. Mr. Angus brings with him 38 years of experience in Community Action and is set to begin his new role as Executive Director on August 9, 2010.

“After much thoughtful consideration, we feel confident that Mr. Angus is the right person to lead EOC,” says Vong Mouanoutoua, Board Chair. “His leadership experience and passion for Community Action make Mr. Angus the ideal candidate to move us forward."

Mr. Angus has dedicated his entire professional life to empowering the poor and disenfranchised through a variety of leadership roles in Community Action Agencies, primarily in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, whose heavy manufacturing base steadily declined as factories began leaving in the 1960s. In the last 10 years, Mr. Angus has transformed two significantly challenged community action agencies in Northern Kentucky and Annapolis, Maryland. Most recently, as Chief Executive Officer for the Anne Arundel County Economic Opportunity Committee in Maryland, he strengthened agency governance and finance, restructured its energy department, and modernized its Head Start program.

“I grew up in an economically depressed mill town in Massachusetts and was the first in my family, and the only neighborhood kid, to graduate from college,” says Mr. Angus. “Community Action programs helped me understand the value of an education, a good job, and the importance of helping people help themselves and their community.”

"The opportunity to work with the Board and staff of EOC, lead the agency and community in addressing and reducing poverty, while helping individuals and families become self sufficient and involved citizens, will be challenging and exciting,” adds Mr. Angus.
