Sanctuary Youth Inspired by Visit
to KSEE 24

Our Sanctuary Shelter youth learned the nitty-gritty of running a television station with a tour of the KSEE-24 studios last month. A group of students participated in a Career Day tour and discovered the different career opportunities available in the world of journalism and broadcasting.

The day included meet-and-greets with a few KSEE-24’s professionals. Weathercaster Colin Jackson showed students how to use a giant green screen to present the weather forecast while News Anchor Faith Sidlow explained to the students the benefits and hardships of the industry. Don Osika, General Sales Manager, gave the students a crash course in advertising sales and explained how making sales goals leads to the success of the station.

“We are always looking for organizations that are willing to participate in a Career Day with us,” says Michelle Tutunjian, Sanctuary Director. “Career Day is meant to show our youth what it’s like in a particular job field and inspire them to start planning for their futures.”

By the end of the day, students were amazed to learn how many behind-the-scenes people it takes to operate a news station while some even left interested in a career in broadcasting. Central Valley Today host Alex Delgado explained how a career in television takes personality, a positive attitude, and the ability to read and write clearly.

If it’s one thing our Sanctuary youth does have, is personality!
