Fresh Tops Program to Launch at
Market on the Mall

In an effort to help our low-income community, our Market on the Mall will be launching the new Fresh Tops program.

Starting next week, the Fresh Tops program will allow our farmers market customers that are Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) clients, Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) clients, and / or recipients of WIC or FMNP senior vouchers will receive an extra 50 cents for every $1 (one dollar) spent. For example, if $10 were spent at Market on the Mall, the customer will be given another $5 incentive, allowing the customer to buy $15 worth of healthy fruits or vegetables.

“With unemployment and poverty rates increasing, people may not have the funds to buy healthy and nutritious foods,” says Jensen Vang, Community Service Coordinator for Market on the Mall. “The Fresh Tops program will give our customers more spending power for those needed healthy fruits and vegetables as well as increasing sales for our local farmers, it’s a win win.”

The Fresh Tops program is made possible by a grant from Roots of Change and support by California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA).
