Weatherization Completes First
Solar Home

The Dorsey Family, of Fresno, has a reason to be smiling this summer. The Dorsey Family home is the first home installed with a complete solar electric system by our Weatherization program. This home will be the first of 151 solar electric system installations under the “Solar For All California” Grant from the California Department of Community Services.

The new solar electric system consists of 16 photoelectric panels and related solar equipment. This solar electric system will reduce the family’s electric bill by $134 per month and will eliminate 24 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, a powerful greenhouse gas that is the major cause of global warming.

The “Solar For All California” Grant will allow Weatherization to train 20 crew members to perform solar assessments and installations under the supervision of Sundowner Insulation Company’s solar division. When all 151 systems are installed throughout the Central Valley, together they will save over $9,000,000 in electricity costs and 7,250,000 pounds of greenhouse gases.
