| Last week, our Sanctuary and Youth Services accepted a proclamation from Fresno City Councilmember Cynthia Sterling to kick off November as National Runaway Prevention Month.
“The City of Fresno has been a long standing partner with Sanctuary and we are proud to provide ‘safe places’ for our children through our police, parks and community centers,” said Sterling as she presented the Proclamation to Michelle L. Tutunjian, Sanctuary and Youth Services Director, and other Sanctuary staff in attendance. While accepting the proclamation, Tutunjian asked Amoratte, a TLC resident, to share her experience with Sancutary to the Fresno City Council and Mayor Ashley Swearengin.
“I was homeless and in a bad relationship when I learned about the Sanctuary,” said Amoratte. “Today, I am a successful young parent with two children, independent, and thriving at the Sanctuary Transitional Living Center with courage and strength.”
In partnership with California Coalition for Youth and the National Runaway Switchboard Hotline, Sanctuary and Youth Services is planning a range of activities in November to increase advocacy, action, and awareness of the millions of youth that run away each year and the thousands of youth classified as runaways in Fresno. Tomorrow, our Sanctuary and Youth Services team will receive a proclamation from Fresno County’s Board of Supervisors. |
