LCC Goes to The State Capitol

Recently, our LCC joined other conservation corps from throughout the Golden State for Government Education Day at the California State Capitol in Sacramento. Corpsmembers Cody Wingerd, Brian White, Steve Rodriguez, Vang Neng and Maria Pineda, alongside LCC staff members Susan Carter and Shawn Riggins, informed our elected officials about the great work being performed by corpsmembers in the representative’s districts. Corpsmembers had the opportunity to meet with staff from the offices of Assemblymembers Henry T. Perea and Linda Halderman, M.D., and were able to share their stories directly with Senators Tom Berryhill and Michael Rubio.

As part of Government Education Day, each corps selected a Corpsmember to be honored. Maria Pineda, a mother of two attending Fresno City College and serving as LCC’s receptionist, received an award on the Senate floor from Senator Rubio while her name scrolled across the Senate’s electronic roll call board.

We are very proud of our corpsmembers! LCC’s Director Shawn Riggins says it best, “LCC is training tomorrow’s leaders, today!”
