| Our Local Conservation Corps (LCC) and Employment & Training Division are putting at-risk youth and young adults to work! Thanks to a grant from California Emergency Management Agency’s Cal-YOR Program, our LCC and Employment & Training Division are providing education and work opportunities to sixty (60) 16 – 26 year olds.
The program helps two target populations: 16- 18 year-old youth detained at Juvenile Justice Campus and young adults, 18 – 26 years, enrolled in LCC. While Employment and Training provides construction training to 20 youth at Juvenile Justice Campus, LCC offers job-training and education opportunities to 40 young adults lacking a high school diploma. Training is intended to expose Corpsmembers to vocational options and prepare them for work in the private market; they are required to enroll in an approved education program concurrent to their work responsibilities.
The two-year grant cycle ends February 28, 2013. The grant also provides funding for substance abuse services for program participants.
