Eight youth from our Sanctuary Youth Shelter enjoyed a live performance of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid JR.” thanks to the generous donation from Children’s Musical Theaterworks.

Upon arrival, cast members were available for a meet and greet. There were 32 cast members ranging from small children to adults. All of the youth stated they liked Ariel’s voice when she sang. The play was different than the movie, which kept them interested. One youth stated she couldn’t get over how many vibrant colors were used in the cast’s costumes and make-up.

After the play, the youth got to meet the cast members again and some even received their autographs. One youth stated, “I enjoyed it! I wish my family would’ve seen it.” Shelter youth are interested in attending future community theater events, a positive youth development activity which exposes youth to local arts and different cultures.
