Sierra Foothill Conservancy

Local Conservation Corps (LCC) and YouthBuild Fresno Corpsmembers and staff recently volunteered to spend a day in the wilderness with the Sierra Foothill Conservancy. Corpsmembers geared up with safety equipment and tools and headed up the mountain, ready to put in a full day of work. After a quick safety orientation and informational regarding the history of the land and its animals, Corpsmembers were ready to go. For the entire day, the hard working group of youth and staff cut down unwanted fig trees that were causing nearby natural springs to dry up. In one day, (2) massive trees filled with branches and vines were successfully cut down with chain saws, clippers, and bow saws.

The Sierra Foothill Conservancy was very pleased with the work performed by LCC and expressed its appreciation and thanks to the youth for volunteering. In addition, Corpsmembers had the chance to get away from the city for a day to experience nature, including scenic views, ponds, and a waterfall.
