| A sea of purple and the sweet sounds of the marimba welcomed guests to our Foster Grandparent Program’s Annual Recognition Luncheon. The event, now in its 40 th year, recognizes all Foster Grandparents and pays special tribute to those volunteers reaching special milestones.
“Grandpa” Dean Wessel, “Grandma” Marcelina Rodriguez, “Grandma” Rosie Aguearo were all honored for their years of services; 20, 24, and 25 years, respectively. “Grandma” Emma Curtis, who passed away late last year, received an honorable mention for the impact she made to countless youth during her 25 year tenure as a Foster Grandparent.
The luncheon kicked off with a touching poem written and read by Foster Grandparent Program Co-Director Kathlene Brookshire, a purple hat parade led by Foster Grandparent Program Co-Director Vicki Lopes, and a vocal performance from Aaron Easley. Accompanied by his mother on the keyboard, Easley sang some of Grandma Curtis’ favorite songs including “Give Me My Flowers”.
We thank each and every Foster Grandparent volunteer for the time, patience and love they demonstrate with every child … and hope you enjoyed your special day!
