Sanctuary’s New Drop-In Center Hosts Youth Resource Event

Fresno County’s homeless and runaway youth have a chance to get connected with agencies, organizations, and people ready to help them succeed during the Get Connected Youth Resources Day Saturday, June 18, from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. The event will be held at Neighborhood Thrift Store, the newly designated Safe Place site and Drop-In Center, located at 353 E. Olive Avenue in Fresno’s Tower District.

This site is youth and user friendly and offers recreational activities, live entertainment, free WI-FI access, and resources for help,” says Joe Martinez, Sanctuary and Youth Services’ community and outreach coordinator. “Its central location makes it convenient for youth seeking assistance without having them commute to downtown Fresno for help.”

The event includes free entertainment, refreshments courtesy of Starbucks, raffles, and the distribution of 600 pairs of jeans donated to the Teens for Jeans campaign by retailers (Aeropostale, Old Navy and the Gap) to youth in attendance. More importantly, youth will have the opportunity to leave the streets and get connected to emergency housing, enroll in adult school, find a job and participate in employment and training programs, and receive a health check up, all under one roof.

Safe Place is a national youth outreach program that educates young people about the dangers of running away from home. It provides youth and young adults, ages 11 – 17, access to our Sanctuary Youth Shelter and its services.

If your program is interested in hosting an informational booth at the youth resource event , please contact Joe Martinez at 498.8543 ext 103.
