Program Rural Tobacco Education Program (RTEP)
   
Description A tobacco education and prevention program designed to assist individuals and communities in rural Fresno County in building tobacco free, healthy lifestyles. Offers free workshops and presentations to groups in rural communities. Conducts surveys and outreach activities to determine the most effective tobacco prevention methods.

Legislative Mandates/Requirements Tobacco Control Section (TCS) funds are not and may not be used to support lobbying activities. Required to check TCS web site PARTNERS twice a week.

Historical Information Rural Tobacco Education Program 11-year history of involvement in working in rural Fresno County communities to counter Pro-Tobacco Influences and reduce exposure to secondhand smoke.
   
Mission Countering Pro-Tobacco Influences and Reduce exposure to secondhand smoke in rural Fresno County communities.
   
Goals Conduct health education and promotion activities which will reduce the number of persons beginning to use tobacco, continuing to use tobacco, or developing tobacco-related diseases. Reduce exposure to Secondhand smoke.
   
Measurable Outcomes Conduct surveillance activities, collect and maintain data, submit reports, perform evaluation activities, and a final evaluation report.
   
Other Unique Information

EOC Rural Tobacco Education Program is very well know for working in rural communities and for working with the Latino population in California. The TCS refers other states to EOC’s RTEP for information regarding methods for working with Latinos in rural communities.
